The project has worked with fishers to identify causes and solutions related to marine waste from fisheries. It has developed and tested an educational program for fishers and investigated the potential for circular economy ventures based on marine waste as a resource.

Marine litter threatens marine life, and ultimately the provision of clean and healthy seafood. Prevention is the most cost-effective approach to this global challenge. In the Barents Sea region fisheries contribute a high portion of the litter. RE-D-USE will work with fishers to identify causes and solutions, and develop an educational program to reduce waste and gear loss. We will also investigate the potential for circular economy ventures based on marine waste as a resource. The project is coordinated by Nordland Research Institute and has 13 partners from research, the fishery sector and circular economy businesses in Norway, Russia and Canada.
